Hey Digital Communicators, I’m John Falke from Johnny Flash Productions and Amplified Impact, and this is 101 Ways to Attract More Visitors, a practical guide for churches to amplify their impact and reach their communities. Now let’s amp it up.

#1, Define Your Target Audience. Now whether you have it defined or not, you’re reaching a certain audience or a certain set of people and you want to do it on purpose. Decide who you’re trying to reach and who you’re best equipped to reach. The great motivational speaker, the late Zig Ziglar used to say, “If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time.” So figure out who your best equipped to reach.

There’s a church near me called National Community Church and they meet at movie theaters near Metro stops in Washington DC and they’re great at reaching young adults and young professionals. They make their programming decisions, their location decisions, their service time decisions, all of those things based on their target audience.

So who is your target audience? Here’s the thing, when you have a target audience, it’s not that those are the only people that you’re trying to reach. It’s just that you’re making decisions intentionally to try to reach them.

Who is your church's target audience? Of course everyone is welcome, but decisions you make slant toward a certain audience. @johnfalke Share on X

Of course everyone’s welcome at our church. Everyone is welcome at your church, but the reality is certain decisions that you make slant toward a certain audience, and so by defining your target audience, you’re going to be able to make those decisions on purpose: how loud the music is going to be, what’s your services are going to be, what programs are going to offer, etc.
So define your target audience and then you’ll be able to make decisions on purpose.

In the next video, I’m going to show you how to make every Sunday special. It’s going to be epic. Until then, amp it up.
